This is an attack on anything White.
An attack on both meanings of White: the skin color and the culture of not hating civilization.
Personal responsibility and hard work are white supremacist concepts!
Considering that you can have an all black cast but not an all white one, that making a historical themed movie or a fantasy movie set in an medieval european stile must have minorities even if it would not make sense and make the movie objectively worse, you are 100% correct.
Wouldn't have won what, an Oscar? How many 'best pictures' of the preceding years have been any good? They let some right worthy shit win, like Parasite...One cut of the Dead was way better, nicer message too.
The Oscars can sink into woke irrelevancy...loads of brilliant films have been ignored in the past...nothing will change, the best films are remembered by the public.
The Oscars are doing to themselves what the Hugos did to themselves.
NO ONE CARES.
The problem with the Oscars is that they set the tone. Hollywood is very woke so they will use this as an instruction for all movies, this is the new normal. And lets face it, the new generation would not notice forced diversity or even realize they are designed to discriminate against white people, for them this is the normal going forward. We are no longer part of the target audience and irrelevant at this point.
I do not remember were I read it but it was this "poll" about the number of LGBTQ+ people in the world and there was a large number thinking it was over 20% do to movie representation (I remember it vaguely so take it with a huge grain of salt).
I was thinking the same thing, but they'd probably all be foreign films no one would recognize.
You could list some qualifying candidates, but actually picking a winner from among them would be a statement of opinion and not a statement of fact.
There might be a more objective way. For one thing, if there was only one qualifying movie among the nominees, I think it'd be safe to say that it would be the winner.
but Gone with thd wind would qualify and maybe even birth of a nation(1915 version not the shit BAME version)
