the academy believes the requirements provide a road map for how the industry can ensure that at least those films that compete for its highest honor reflect the diversity of the moviegoing audience and the wider world.
“The aperture must widen to reflect our diverse global population in both the creation of motion pictures and in the audiences who connect with them,”
Whites are a minority globally, when you throw in Bollywood and Chinese films (plus Japanese & all the other non-white countries with a strong film industry) there's a good chances whites would be an underrepresented group. ;)
And who ever said the different stripes of Asians are all monolithic and like one another as far as THAT goes? Are Han supremacists going to want to watch Bollywood movies full of the India race of Asian? Are Bollywood fans going to want to watch Han supremacist movies that would put the most rah-rah Murica John Wayne flick to shame?
As a non-American, I don't give two shits, the Oscars are mainly for Hollywood and American films, who cares if not represented? No one watches them for "representation" anyways.
Most Americans don't care about the Oscars either. Their ratings have been consistently slipping over the past decades. Because there are other things to watch now with the prevalence of cable and streaming services.
Also the Oscars are literally just an industry awards function and this has become clearer and clearer over the years. They used to throw in some popcorn flicks to the top categories just to get people to watch the show. Not anymore though.

Straight hwhite men are an underepresented demographic in film and television globally.
But that's okay because ____.
