They don't even need to leave their country though. What are the Europeans giving them in Europe that they don't already give them in their own countries? How are NGOs functionally different from the colonial administrations they replaced?

I’ll just leave that there. The part that really sticks out in that amazing read is the part where he’s mentioning why wouldn’t they ask? Worst case scenario they get told no, but it works so often there is reason to keep asking. They are not being turned down, so why wouldn’t they try to come take gibs and nice houses vs their huts. It’s a low effort deal for them.
