I firmly believe Tyler was involved in some way and wanted Charlie dead, but was picked as the fall guy.

This is pretty much what I've been saying from more or less the minute it happened. Tyler had prepared for an attempt that day, but ultimately never went for it. Someone else did and he took the fall.
