Tbf in the 90s and on Superman has a lot of combat experience fighting people on his level or stronger, and actual combat experience>>>>>training. Plus, he's been depowered multiple times and has received training from Batman and Diana herself, and even without that he's still built like a brick house.
Sadly none of that ever really translated to then fighting smart against later opponents. It was always the usual flying brick vs another flying brick with many buildings being destroyed or punched through. Or if there was DC then hit the reset button again with a Crisis and any tactical knowledge went out the window again.
