OpenAI is preparing for an IPO and I suspect the video generation aspect of its business is highly costly with little gain (anticipated) so they're axing it to improve their financial statements for their IPO.
If that was their reasoning, then they should just shutter the entire company, because none of it is profitable. If you look at their financials, they look like the suitcase full of IOUs in Dumb and Dumber.
Who knows. Maybe Microsoft wants to sell their stake in the company at a profit and they pushed for this. Could be anything really but it seems stupid to get rid of this unless they were fixing up their income statement or future balance sheet.
