I think anime breaks our conventions for it quite often. You get 20 action episodes then a sudden a gratuitous beach episode where some pervy 80 year old and/or the mc falls into the tits of a teen. That’s their culture so idc, but I don’t want that to become my culture.
Fan service can go too far and just be porn. I give the japs a pass, I just won’t engage with it, not my culture. But it doesn’t mean I want it everywhere in my culture and I certainly don’t want all the old classics made ‘adult’,
