It's called puberty. Edgy teenager phase because that is when you geta foothold into society and start asking questions why things are how they are. Challenge authority, act out, play the fool. Just to get an idea where you stand. Then you hit early adulthood and the loneliness sets in. The desire for companionship. Which leads to a family. Rinse and repeat. If the family does not happen, the loneliness is compounded, leading to a spiral. That spirals into false hope. Filling a hole you do not understand, but are able to replicate, at least, that's what you think.
The psychology of it isn't that complicated. It's just a poor individual that failed to hit the latter stepping stones of their lives and are stuck in a fantasy.
