Never read it myself, but I've always heard that a big progenitor for all of this is "Simulacra and Simulation," a pseudo-philosophical treatise by Jean Baudrillard.
If want want more fun stuff with the same general neighborhood of ideas, I'd recommend William Gibson's "Neuromancer." "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson is a logical next step in fun cybernonsense.
No, the is the real author. The cover is definitely AI generated. Couldn’t find a copy of the original but when I see a movie I enjoy and learn it’s based on a book I grab a copy
Hard as this is to believe, I doubt that cover is AI. To me it looks in the same neighborhood as an "Animorphs" book cover. In the late 90's a lot of publishers stopped paying $10k per book cover for artists to make actual paintings that they then used as covers, and everything went "computer art." Everything since then, including this, looks like the same sort of awful to me.
I think this specific cover is from 2021, so before AI. Just fucking terrible though, that's for sure.
The cover is freaking me out
Definitely strange. You ever see that movie? Seemed like 99 was the year for movies with the “reality isn’t what you think” theme
The Matrix Strange Days Johnny Mnemonic Dark City The Thirteenth Floor eXistenZ
is my short list for this kind of stuff, movies that are worth it. Not "good" necessarily, but if not good then fun at least.
And I had no idea it was based on a book so I can’t wait to read

Cool! I have Snow Crash in my mountain of unread books and I think I have Neuromancer. I think Netflix or prime are going to butcher…..I mean adapt it
Nope.
Not a bad movie. It’s on YouTube and Tubi
Never heard of it and all of those names are AI generates.
The names are real sci-fi authors and they predate AI.
