Antonio is partly right, Lula is not a communist, not a socialist, he doesn't have any ideology, like a good politician he leans to the side that will bring him the most advantage, allow him and his to have power.

To see the level off disconnect of Lula and anything intelligent, he met Lech Walessa the Polish union leader thinking they would have something in common (Lula was union leader, he lost a pinky, couldn't work because he was disabled), when he noticed that Wallessa was actually fighting against communism.

Lula was created by the armed forces dictatorship to have a counter balance to the "oppression", and he created his own wings and flew away.

He has the courts in his favour, even more corrupt politicians in the chambers and the rest is history.
