Unearned pride/nationalism/superiority/whatever is one of the saddest things there is. "Look at us, we're so cool," says group of losers who prop themselves up on sheer imagination or at best something some distant ancestor did.
The only good SE asian country I can think of is Singapore. And even then, that's probably because it's mostly populated by ethnic Chinese.
And a former British colony that they invested in and adopted a lot of British stuff.
How they went from a run down fishing hamlet to a 1st world country in a few decades definitely says something about how you should actually take improving your country seriously, instead of spending all your time blaming your problems on colonialism.
Meanwhile India is also a former British colony, but it's also still a shithole that's let their extensive railway system degrade over the years.
