They don’t have a large enough population to sustain the scale of the Gaza war without going into a state of total war. Thus, the IDF has been redeploying people who have served way past the regular limit, and they and their families are fed up with it. They’ve tried to get the Ultra Orthodox community to work with conscription and the draft, but the UO’s don’t want to and could collapse the governing coalition if necessary, which means Netanyahu probably goes to prison for corruption or whatever it is he’s on trial for. The operation to fully control Gaza is going to be very manpower intensive and more bodies need to be sent into the territory than the IDF can deploy.
