You'd think he would have been better prepared with something more substantial than a printout of Carlson's newsletter, but perhaps he wasn't expecting Carlson to go so hard on him out of friendship. Hence, Cruz flailing and trotting out the tiresome old insults when he was rumbled: antisemite, isolationist, conspiracy theorist.
That said, I wasn't expecting Cruz to suggest that Carlson professed the foreign policy of Jimmy Carter/Barack Obama, or that Carlson was a moral relativist, when much of Cruz's argument essentially amounted to: what is overall right and wrong depends on who is committing the action. Given that we're back to the early 2000's, I'm honestly surprised Cruz didn't just outright call Carlson anti-American, although his dig at the Russian grocery store visit could be seen as suggestive.
