Not that odd. After the 300 (2006 film) ended, Athen wanted to build a long wall to protect themselves from future Persian invasion, which drew opposition from Sparta, because in a potential conflict between themselves that would leave Sparta no way to retaliate on land while Athena navy can strike Sparta freely.
