I'm not even sure which awards show this is. DICE, I think, based on the timing. But, yeah, I have no idea why anyone watches this crap or any of the other similar crap too, like "The Game Awards" by the Doritos Pope. It's all just propaganda.
Award shows have always been self-congratulatory wank-fests first and foremost. Once you realise it's about internal industry ass-pats and nothing to do with recognising talent, it's suddenly pretty clear why these shows so often devolve into political shitshows: It's a way to try and ostracise those outside the declared "in-group".
They get large amounts of money from advertisers (recall Dorito Pope) and the game devs themselves to "market" (bribe) their stuff in the show itself.
Its a literal closed circle of companies paying influencers and journos to talk about and award their games and in turn give them extra accolades to put on the marketing blurbs. The consumers is an irrelevant piece of their existence.
That's how you know Orange man ain't a dictator. If he was, it'd be a bloodbath in there and the press would be ordered to say "Nothing happened at the awards." on penalty of trillion-dollar fines.
What an absolute LOSER. I thought this guy was some sort of games creator but he's nothing but a hack "reporter" who's schmoozed himself into the industry.

Most people I know that watch it is more to see trailers and things at this point.
Or to laugh at how much money the AAA studios waste on these shows.
