Such people like to think they are defenders of knowledge against stupid barbarians who just want to destroy everything.
They haven't the foggiest idea what motivates their perceived enemies. They literally don't know any, because they have purged them all from their lives in the most vicious and uncaring ways possible.
Worst of all they don't even understand the "knowledge" they're guarding. They act like they're protecting some irreplaceable holy gospel, not a hint of understanding that a single to double digit percentage of those texts are fraudulent and objectively wrong, and the rest by definition should be replicable.
Closing down any single institution is a "nothing of value was lost" moment, copies will remain of their previous work and reality doesn't give a fuck who studies it, anyone good enough can get the answers
