I was a bit skeptical at first, just given how much I've always hated reboots since the trend first started. But I'll hand it to them, they did manage to at least partially do an interesting job at modernizing the more technical aspects of the Macgyver concept and execution.
The characters in the reboot aren't quite as memorable as the original of course. And there are episodes and plots that get run down with the same rinse and repeat crap that's the norm for these kinds of shows today.
Overall it's barely an echo of the original, but they could've done far worse.
Pretty much. At least 90% of the time. There are a few rare exceptions where a reboot has actually not sucked. Like the newer Judge Dredd movie that came out a few years ago.
I have no recollection of that. Going off on somewhat of a tangent though, I do recall how the last season or two or even three seasons of MacGuyver were hurt by RDA's liberalism injecting his views into the character. It started out by being "anti-gun", despite using a gun briefly in the first season, and eventually devolved into blatant propaganda on environmentalism and social justice issues. I remember fully woke "Very Special Episodes" about racism in America. Even for the time it was all very obvious.
Man, fuck late stage MacGuyver, but first season MacGuyver was peak television. Until SG-1 anyway.
Richard Dean Anderson had an iconic role as McGuyver and then went on to an iconic role as Jack O'Neal in SG1.
Besides maybe Tom Selleck I can't think of another star to have two iconic tv roles.
The remake had 5 seasons? I vaguely remember it but didn't think it went that long.
You mean like Bryan Cranston of Malcom in the Middle and Breaking Bad?
Or Rowan Atkinson of Mr. Bean and Blackadder?
Cranston is a good one.
Maybe in England for Blackadder but it's probably too niche for Americans

Dei and smug pretty much summarize all the reboots

nothing new there, though it's likely gotten worse, but that's probably the main reason being a remake is strike one for a new show/movie for me.
Guy pierce from LockUp wouldve been good.the sarcastic, cynical character. Almost like a deadpool.

Hollywood's always been a natural breeding ground for hippies, unfortunately...
