That is an ideological conquest, like renaming Fort Bragg. That is worth doing, and is in fact imperative. This does nothing, and looks quite silly, to be honest.
Your example is a re-conquest. This is not. It's our own conquest. And I believe it's target is to upset the "Bronze" National Socialists who run most of our immigration policies.
Really you don't see any ideological motivations to renaming the Gulf of Mexico? Guess someone was just bored
