Someone with better humour skill will make a joke about Dr Mario.
Also is it Luigi Mario or Mario Mario? It could be the father and son dynamic from that movie instead of brothers.
They weren't father and son in that movie.
They were orphans.
Mario had to be something more than an older brother.

Even your quote says he views Mario as his parent. Aside from Miyamoto getting on the joke by stating their last names are both Mario there isn't anything in my statement that said they couldn't also be orphans in a father/parent/guardian son relationship.
