Not saying he is. Point is, the left was on the attack, and drew Grummz further into the spotlight. It does sound like Grummz shit the bed in some ways, and he'll have to deal with that. Also, I can't see the full context, and it seems like both were getting a little confrontational and illogical, but it seems like just stupid internet drama; each took something out of context, Grummz blocked Sid over stupid shit, Sid attacked Grummz over stupid shit, etc.
It does seem like Grummz's project is a joke, and there were people hurt by it. He can't seem to show any progress, and it's been largely dead for years now. Point remains; I feel no need to help the left (and, again, not saying that's Sid, but that's who's causing some of this drama) get their scalp. Grummz fucked up. I'm not going to defend him, and I'm also not going to help his attackers; he has to face the consequences of his own actions...or inactions.
As someone who never donated to the project, I don't have a dog in the fight. If his backers feel slighted, they should file for refunds. But it seems to largely be his enemies, not his backers, who are trying to cause a fuss.
