I guess we got different memos. Or I'm not manly enough. One or the other, who knows. I'm rather bearded, and generally don't wear polos, and sometimes wear plaid.
I don't think there's one right answer. Plenty of conservatives have beards, plenty are clean shaven. Plenty of libs have beards (and it's gross), plenty are clean shaven (also gross.)
Where I am from all the hard lefty types have beards. They also wear flannel, influence of the hipsters and all that. Although everyone in the greater Seattle area has to have flannel somewhere in their closet, it's the law. That does change farther out from the greater Seattle area one goes. I remember during my time in Idaho it was the opposite, although a lot of Seattle transplants brought in their beards and flannel.
Eh. It's very' place and time' dependent. There's nothing inherently conservative or liberal about a beard. As, as someone else linked, even now it's dependent on personal politics; if you're a Canadian leftist dictator, beards are great...if you're an American conservative politician, beards mean you hate women and are the enemy of humanity.
