The IDF is unique in world militaries in that they are extremely averse to casualties, given the small population of Israel. Advancing into Gaza has been costly, comparable to the grueling Fallujah and Sadr City battles in Iraq. The 500-600 KIA that Arch mentioned is a significant number to them. So in other words the line about twenty 9/11s wasn't totally baseless.
They really need to draft anyone? Like has ANY IDF planes been shot down since they started this?

You can't keep a drafted soldier forever. You gotta release them and replace them.
