Yeah, people really like to doom over Japan. I think they just like to doom in general, and so go out of their way to counter people who look at Japan favorably.
Yes, Japan has problems. Yes, Japan is not perfect. But they're still - for now - on a much better path than the West. So it's pretty silly to say how doomed they are. If Japan is doomed...we'll all be at the nasty end point much faster. And, as much as I appreciate Japan, my own country being more doomed is a much more pressing concern.
They really aren’t. They were among the first countries where the TFR dropped below replacement. The fact that they didn’t have replacement immigration up until now doesn’t give them that much of an advantage, as in the end it’s all a numbers game. The median Japanese is 49 years old. This means that roughly half of Japan’s population is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things and it’s only going to get worse.
There is a lot of the "Problem: :), Problem Japan: :(" going on, where because Japan is put on this huge pedestal because of anime and video games that anything happening there is blown up well beyond reality.
Its worth keeping an eye on, but the level of concern people have over it while their own pockets are looted shows extremely bad priorities.
