The weird thing is that they are defending Jesus more fervently than many Christians.
The purpose of deliberately mistranslated versions of The Bible suddenly become clear.
Genuinely curious, could you explain this? I know all bibles have been translated slightly differently to each other, but are there some bibles much closer to original source texts?
There have been a ton of new translations beyond the King James version mess with the content. Yes, it's not easy to read, but modernization of the text seemed to change up words and drop others completely. Most (not all) of the new translations are from the 20th century and onwards. Wikipedia itself has a giant grid showing around 100 alternative translations. Why? Consensus cracking from even before COINTELPRO.
This page that feels right at home in the internet of 1994 has some selected quotes if you want to see how your favorites turn out.
Not going to claim that's the only authority, and I'm by no means some expert, but it's interesting seeing it organized in such a way (and bookmarkable) along with the actual examples from a subset of mis-translations.
For one example, the classic line "The meek shall inherit the Earth."
Turns out the greek word used (all the oldest bibles are written in greek) is closer to "disciplined", "resolute," or "unwavering." Not what we would call meek.
Christians got word-cucked.
Yeah. I got nothing.
It's
funnysad because it's true.Christians are wimps. Muslims defend their religion all the time.
I think Ned Flanders did more damage to Christianity than anything else imaginable.
Simpsons in general was incredibly subversive. It's wild to go back and see the degenerate seeds they planted.
