What about those communist work hours in China? I realize the life expectancy has increased now that they've installed the suicide nets, but I'd still like to see a side-by-side comparison: life expectancy of working people in China vs the West.
I'm aware of the American left's conception of European-style welfare states as socialistic, and to be fair we also throw that accusation around on the right: it's just that we don't think it's a good thing. The "not real communism" thing is a meme of it's own at this point.
As for the "schism" on the left, it's not as cut-and-dry as neolibs vs anticapitalists. Both of those groups support many of the same ideas for different reasons, but their core goal is the same: to destroy Western civilization and the concept of nationalism and nations tied to a sense of place and a common set of cultural values based on shared ancestry and language.
The globalist elite wants that destroyed because it's good for their bottom line, and because it would put an end to the basis for most of the popular opposition to their programme. The commies just hate the West. But ultimately both groups seek to use the apparatus of government to destroy the nation state and nations in general, and each group is convinced that they will be the ones in charge after that happens.
As I said in another comment in this thread, their motivation is hatred of the West, and their goal is to see it destroyed. It doesn't need to be more complex than that. Either they're convinced that any alternative must be better, or they're just so spiteful that they want everyone else to be as miserable as they are. That, and they all seem to think they'll be the ones in charge after the revolution.

It might be giving the rank-and-file too much to credit them with 'goals' - except being the most obedient parroting serf there is?
