that seems out of character for the communists that now run poland
You're not familiar with the history of Communism. The Old Left were staunchly isolationist. There's a reason "Papers, Please" represents the immigration policy of a Warsaw Pact state. Economic "Self-Sufficiency" also meant isolationism demographically as well. The Berlin Wall was both to keep East Germans in, as well as West Germans out.
then why do they always complain about not taking enough migrants and other gay shit?
First: Communists aren't principled. Their position is to seek power. They do not need consistent, or even coherent, positions.
Second: The Old Left vs. The New Left strategy differences. The Old Left (Revolutionary Socialism) sought about the Leninist strategy of killing your way up and replacing the elites. Your dependent classes are your literal stormtroopers and literal enforcers. The New Left (Fabian Socialism) works off of subversion. Your dependent classes are a political base which you use to pressure policy change. You re-orient the institutions of society so that they can be your dependent class of managers and activists.
It's one of the reasons why people don't understand that violence doesn't have to be a policy when dealing with the Fabians. They fight through soft-power legitimacy. If we were fighting Leninists, then yeah, you just have to join the White Russians or the Polish Army and shoot at them until the Red Horde draws down from sheer attrition or they'll literally kill everyone. But that's not how the Fabians operate.
Where did you get the idea that the Berlin Wall was ever meant to keep anyone out? It was always understood to simply keep people IN. That sounds like another tacked-on 21st century myth misremembered as 20th century history, like that nonsense about Die Glocke (pure fiction from around 2000.)
GOING to the USSR and its satellites was never that hard. What was hard, was leaving it if you were born in one.
What Commies ARE known for, are very carefully curated and guided visits if you do go.
The Communists themselves. The Anti-Fascist wall. They didn't take people in.
This is exactly my point. You're a guest for propaganda purposes. They're not going to just let you in, and then let you out.
It's one of the reasons the US didn't have any good human intel in the USSR. You could get into a Communist country with difficulty. You were not getting out of it, and you damn sure weren't going to give information to the CIA from within it.
As you're saying, it's easy to get in, but you're not going to get out (although they DID sometimes let Westerners go back - for propaganda purposes. Which is one of the ways we wound up with so many commies here; it only takes a few to come back and "spread the word" about how everything said about the USSR was a lie, or exaggeration. And many of them actually did believe that, not to mention the ones that went there and stayed because they really were true believers.)
They love to accept people INTO the cult, but like all cults, they only release those they know will sing the right tune. And visitors will have their open, curious minds filled with nothing but the best you have to offer.
Maybe I worded myself wrong the first time.
This happened after a soldier got killed by one of the illegals who stabbed him through the fence iirc
