China being a powerful neighbor is far more of a factor than being Han. States generally balance with far-away states against nearby states. E.g. Stalinist China under Mao allied with the US against the 'revisionist' Soviets who went soft on Marxist orthodoxy. Ideology barely matters if at all.
I think he was agreeing that Russia is more naturally an ally of the US than it is of China, but because they don't want to be China's Hat like Canada is to US rather than because the Han are massive racists and will betray the Russians the first chance they get.
Ironic thing is that I bet Russia actually would rather have Trump in office, even despite all the wins Biden has given them.
...because they're not Han Chinese, and the Han don't give a shit about anybody else. Their alliance with China is unnatural.

Your example seems to contradict your point
How so? China allied with the 'far enemy' against the close enemy, and ignored ideology in favor of Realpolitik (and the US did as well).
