This will be a fun thing to bicker about but I do think it ultimately boils down to preference. Aim down sights or hip fire half life style? Which do you prefer for your shooter style? I'm ultimately very mixed and can go for either, I find ADS can be pretty immersive under the right circumstances but then I like with quick arcadey feel of a hip fire game and not really having to think about much beyond blasting stuff.

most games with ads have aim assist turned up to 11 when the ads button is pressed.
In my experience, it's less common on pc and only common on console games.
Unfortunately depending on what you're looking at for online shooters especially they pander to consoles a lot and it gets so bad that PC players are switching to controllers so they can have an even fight with the people who frequently meta on the auto-assist.
I was poking at this a bit with games like Fortnite and it became quickly obvious an extremely common tactic was to camp in houses and strafe with shotguns etc. and heavily relying on aim assist to get their shots in, the second you snipe them at a distance they're terrible because naturally the auto-aim barely works then.
To me it's just another example of this is clearly why a lot of people are going for solo games now. You also can't seem to trust online games at all anymore because they inevitably try and spy on you for no damn reason.
To be fair, it depends on the game and also whether you're on a gamepad they sneakily activate it by default. That's generally correct though and is often the case with multiplayers to give the fucking controller players an unfair edge against M&K and if you took it away the controller players would whine and they do at the mere idea of it.
