I'd like to use someone's gaming setup like that, but maybe not for it to be mine.

Have you heard of Clone Hero? It is similar if not better from what I have experienced playing with a buddy who has it set up.
That's cool. I might have to get my hands on a guitar controller sometime and try it out, had an itch for a music based game lately.
