Anime has a lot of good influences from it STILL telling 'the Hero's story' despite western media's rejection
Yup.
Anime can be very derivative, but it's generally much more wholesome and entertaining than modern Western media. Anime is far from perfect, but you could do a lot worse. It generally has a positive message...sometimes in a cheesy way, but positive nonetheless.
And anime is popular because western media has gone to shit. Instead of whining about anime, maybe they should be asking why people don't want to watch western media anymore. . Although i must say , so far , the "conservative pundits" i've seen attack anime are all the grifter types. aka the ones that go "muh nazi bad " and "israel is our greatest ally"

I shit you not, it started in World of Warcraft. As there was an endless succession of "conquering hero" stories in each expansion, eventually the player base started asking for a change of tone, more threatening enemies, and stories where we don't actually win in the end. This was right around where Hollywood began it's dark and gritty phase, and the rest is history.
Basically the problem is with people trying to live in fictional worlds, then when that proves insufficient they try to change the media to fill that role instead of changing how they interact with media and the real world.
