Eh, practically speaking for me, it would probably be impossible.
There is no competition in the area I live in, it's Walmart, Sam's Club (which is owned by walmart), or overpriced co-ops and even gayer (and still overpriced) shit like Whole Foods or Target.
I guess I can try Aldi but I'm not expecting much honestly.
Aldi isn't bad if you're just looking for food and stuff don't know if there's a different standard in America though and I completely feel for you if you're trapped in that situation. A lot of people don't realise how bad some suburbs are for shopping locally, it really is a case of in the UK at least, couple of newsagents that barely stock anything you'd want to buy. They primarily make their money off basic stuff and sweets for school children, then there's nothing but supermarket and fast food chains. Local businesses are all but dead in these areas and it's extremely grim.
The lotus eaters did a good couple of segments on this and the only other shops are Turkish barbers among other stuff which are blatant money laundering operations to the point even the police aren't able to ignore it. Fascinating to look into even if it's pretty depressing, any independent business of any kind really has to look online these days if they want to be competitive.
I went to an ALDI once and wasn't impressed. Laundry detergent was okay, but everything else you can tell how cheap it is, even the red-label, "strong" toilet paper.
