It is. I think you might be a youngin. Back in the late ‘80s and through out the ‘90s, loads of people tried to control pop culture and anything popular by using Christianity and “Think of the children!” excuses. Now, it’s been switched to DEI, “modern audiences”, and “That’s not how a real woman looks!”
I remember those people. The biggest ones were Hillary Clinton, Tipper Gore, and Joe Lieberman. Oh wait.
The "history" you are talking about is a complete fabrication. It has always been the left trying to control culture, so stop carrying their water for them. The fundies then were just as fringe as they are now. In 30 years, people like you will say it was the right behind this bait and switch because of Matt Walsh.
Glad you phrased it that way. Some people may not have recognized the nuance here, but there's a class of henpeckers in society that will use whatever vector of control available to put the screws on other people, ranging from exploiting ideological sensibilities, to outright cloaking themselves as part of those movements. They shift from one side to the other with ease when the tides of power change.
Oh no, I know all of that (Footloose was my school musical, after all!) - I just wondered why, in this instance, the people censoring the game had used that as their argument, given they are clearly doing this for the latter reasons you describe there…
