Vanillaware, the current reigning champion of "curvy female characters" and amazing 2D art in general, has a surprising amount of women artists on their staff. You don't see anyone bitching about a woman sharing a lead artist's credit on Unicorn Overlord, for example. I'm not convinced that women gamers who genuinely love the hobby and aren't just grifting for the ESG money want these ugly characters, either.
Always fun reminder that one of the guys from Vanillaware responded to Kotaku's crying about their women back in Dragon's Crown by drawing a picture of three buff, naked dwarves and saying "provided something closer to your liking."
We can go further than no bitching about a woman sharing the lead artist credit. I also don’t see any bitching about the abundance of (admittedly very pretty) female characters in the game. Why? Because their personalities aren’t shit and they don’t detract from the main story. Even Virginia, who is canonically a raging bitch (according to the other characters) doesn’t really come off as abrasive. And nobody is pulling a “straight white men are the most evil thing in this world” routine.
