Did yall have some semblance of free speech at some point? I first heard about the hate speech laws about 15 years ago when I guy got fined for singing the old disco song Kung Fu fighting because one of the lines says “they were funky Chinamen from funky China town)
At one point, back when the Magna Carta and the free speech corner/square whatever was a thing. The Magna Carta is completely ignored now and the free speech corner got taken over by Muslims who openly harass everybody and the police as ever do nothing. We don't actually have free speech written into law properly as a human right though no matter how much politicians try to gaslight over that.
Words on paper don't mean anything if the people who live according to that paper don't make them mean something.
Things are the way they are right now in the UK because the people that live there aren't angry enough to make it stop. It remains to be seen if the general population will ever be angry enough to make this stop.
