Maybe I am just out of the loop, or fail to connect the dots. What's with a whole bunch of gaming companies laying off people or canceling projects? Is it simply the bad economy all over the world? Because that has been going on for a while, so why so many companies doing this just now, and all at once? A lot of games have been shit too for a while, so it's probably not that either. Do they have to publish quarterly reports in the upcoming days, and are trying to get ahead of the bad news by pretending that they have already done something about the issue?

Yep, it's not even just the political ideology they keep shoving in every release, the games are objectively bad. They're either 'stable' and incredibly unimaginative walking simulators or they're buggy and glitch ridden pieces of shit that can barely run on an average PC. Even without the politics, the worse part about these companies is they won't even admit this is what they've done and insist on gaslighting the audience pretending they need to upgrade their systems among other things.
There's plenty to shit on about modern video games even without ranting about the woke stuff. I've gone into detail about how they can't even do photogrammetry and mocap properly anymore. They often unnecessarily edit things to make them fit the political narrative of let's make our female characters ugly or more butch and that ends up ruining the data they have because they don't know what they're doing. Their workflow is objectively bad and they are heavily reliant on outdated internal engines as well as pre-made assets that they frequently mismatch with each release and it shows with how weird their games keep looking that even the normies are noticing.
With regards to company financials, yes that's also a thing. They hired an absolute ton of wokesters to make themselves look cool and progressive and also likely to get ESG money or investors generally to fake growth. Now they're having to make video games and make money they've probably realised what utter dead weight most of these people are so they're reducing staff to maintain profitability. The problem is, it's not going to be enough because they've erased so much good will even from their cash cow customers they're bleeding money big time which is why they will likely go bankrupt.
Hope that details everything for the most part.
The games being bad is political. The people making these games belong to forcibly diversified studios who are paying twice as much for real labor as the indie studios. It’s like an inverted economy of scale, which is how you know it’s leftism lol
Where I work we got a shit ton of investment money about 5 years ago. At the same time the company decided to get an all female board (they were very proud of this) and they started spending all the money on big offices, hiring their friends. Wasting money on courses about "being strong and showing your vulnerability" as well as all the usual DEI training. Massive overstaffing aswell.
Now a lot of contracts have dried up, moneys gone. Many of the best people quit. DEI hires won't leave and don't know how to do their jobs and many in upper management are too terrified to take any kind of risk. They haven't learned anything either, trying to worm trans shit into every prototype and pitch.
When the marketing starts with diversity and representation you just know they know they have a turd on their hands.
