I think keeping our heads down let it get to this point in the first place.

At one point "our side" wasn't surrounded by enemies. At one point we had the run of the place and through inaction we ceded control of our institutions and government. It was failure to take action that led to this in the first place. I don't see.how failing to act now will help.
