I found some good stuff through this channel and of the few purchases I made after his seeing them I don't regret any. He has an easygoing style and some good insight into UI, QOL, and shooting mechanics. A refreshing lack of politics, just pure gameplay discussion.
He plays all genres of game leaning a bit more toward RPG mechanics.
Yeah, I watch him occasionally to discover new indie games to put on my wishlist and then never buy, lol. He's alright, once in a while he pisses me off when he completely fails to notice something obvious (a marker, a prompt, that kinda stuff), but it's not too bad.
Ah, the gaming content creator classic. It's pretty natural, I'd say, but becomes very glaring when you're watching someone else do it. Some people are way worse than others, too. It's also funny, because if you're doing a series, videos are often recorded in batches, so you'll see someone make the same mistake multiple times, with everyone telling them off in the comments for multiple videos, before they finally get to apply the advice (if they ever do). I guess that's one advantage to one-off videos like Splattercat generally does...you only make those mistakes once, at least.
I used to watch Splatty's stuff, but unsubbed during Covid, when he caught The Fear (tm), when, like a lot of content creators, he realized that shit is getting real and the YouTube crap is the only way he can earn a living. That's when his videos started getting less easygoing and more desperate. In stead of him going around just doing random fun things it got more like him just standing still, without even moving the cursor, for whole minutes, just explaining basic game mechanics and saying shit like "killing enemies gives you XP" or "if you click on the ground your character will move there." This is all the more hilarious since Splatty has always been notorious for skipping tutorials and learning the game by making dumb mistakes, and yet his videos turned more into beginner guides than fun gameplay footage montages. I don't know if he's still like that or if he snapped out of it.
Splattercat is great. And skimming through his most recent video, I might have to check out Unforetold Witchstone, looks like it might be right up my alley.
Also check out Wanderbots. Somewhat similar, in that he has a big variety and looks at a ton of different games, and sometimes they have similar taste.
I'm not as familiar with him, but a few people have recommended me Retromation in the same vein as well.
wanderbot is a name ive not heard in a bit. i rember i used to watch his co op plays on scrap mechanic. i stoped watching when the drama hit that seems to have brokwe apart him and birdcatcher but i forget what all it was over. wonder how much has changed since then?
