There's this silent majority of people who watch anime who are just normal but don't go to conventions or talk about it online. Sadly they are almost totally silent

Same as the RPG gamer community. I remember going to Gen Con once (after they moved to Indianapolis) the cute greeter-girls were giving away welcome bags with soap and deodorant in the bag. Even with the freebie toiletries the bog-stench was palpable
