Some people will whine about anything, won't they?
This was really light "vigilantism," it was literally just a neighborhood patrol. They saw the dude, chased the dude, and the police arrested him. Doesn't even sound like they laid hands on him, just chased him down toward the police.
After the suspect was taken away, one of the men who owns a brewery drove off and returned with a round of beers.
Incredibly wholesome.
“I told him, ‘Here we are. Twenty dads left their families on Christmas Eve to find you. We’d love to meet you in a coffee shop when you’re sober and well.'”
It wasn’t the first time Miller had encountered the suspect. On Dec. 6, he said he found the same man sleeping in his trailer.
“He started saying that he needed help, and got emotional. I told him to stop right there, and I said: ‘Right now, at this moment, I’m the victim,'” Miller said.
The father agreed to help look into rehab options for the suspect, if the man helped him clean up the RV.
Super duper scary vigilantism!
The guy ran off instead of helping, and later broke into people's houses. And the police still let him out after they finally caught him. "Just let the police do their jobs!" Tell the courts to do theirs too, then.
But Fort Langley resident Casey Ambrose said he was disheartened to see that the group chose to hunt for the man, rather than let the police do their job.
“He is an unhoused individual who went into the backyards of people’s houses taking small items like beer and food, and squatting in an abandoned trailer. And this is how they respond?”
I can't begin to describe my contempt for these people, or the lawyer lady who was pushing this, who said:
“The level of obsession in identifying, finding, and continuing to blame this man for any alleged petty crime is concerning..."
And they both do a team up, apparently:
Ambrose and Cline say the fathers’ group’s efforts would have been better spent connecting the suspect to social services, such as housing, employment, and mental health treatment.
They literally tried. Also, sounds like that was the end result anyway, I'm sure he will get access to some of those services, if he chooses.
“Having him arrested is only going to continue the cycle of criminalization, likely resulting in another neighbourhood encountering the same issues with him when he is released.”
Now this is just so braindead I don't even know what she's saying. Him being a criminal is resulting in the criminalization. Again, nothing but contempt for especially this brand of "liberals."

That is not their responsibility nor should it be, they're prime concern is the wellbeing of their family and neighborhood, not the criminals.

This is a dressed up version of the usual female response, "but why are you so OBSESSED with this [thing that clearly shows why she is wrong]?"

I'd be willing to bet an early life check on both of those individuals would be very enlightening
