Yeah, DeSantis is just pretty much out at this point, if he keeps slipping behind Haley. If Trump somehow isn't the guy, and it's something like Biden v Haley...fuck. If Trump's still alive in that scenario, I'm writing him in. If he's not, I'll vote for RFK or something, despite his problems.
No way I'm voting for Haley. As many issues as I have with DeSantis, I wish he hadn't torpedoed his campaign. I'd feel much safer (in the event of a Trumpless general) if it was DeSantis v Biden than Haley v Biden. DeSantis was an imperfect fallback, but he couldn't even do that right.
If Trump is alive, he'll be the nominee. God willing, he will stay that way.
I find it funny that Nikki Haley can find 20% of Republicans to vote for her and most of that 20% somehow made up the audience for the debate. Anyone who likes Nikki deserves a solid kick in their rumpled boomer booty.
A kick right back through time to the Bush era.
I just don't get how people are so convinced that Trump will
winbe allowed to win.Look - if we were just picking based on what sorts of policies a candidate would bring to the presidency, Trump is my guy. He was the first guy in forever that I had zero doubt was using our treasure/power to prioritize us first (and then hopefully reliable allies second). Some of the stupid shit he stirs up on Twitter I could do without, but - whatever - it was worth the price of admission.
Unfortunately, policies aren't what we're picking on, though. The leftists in the government - and, more importantly, in the media and the tech companies that control the access of information to the public - are 100% going to be able to use Trump + their total lack of morals/professionalism to ram through 4 more years of Biden, or whoever else the left throws out there. The average person is way too easily swayed by 24/7 propaganda, and while I understand that they will propagandize against anyone the right runs, running Trump gives them so much ammunition, and so much determination, I don't see how he would ever win. They will go absolutely bonkers blasting the public with negative coverage the second it looks like his nomination is a sure thing. That plus the "electioneering" (universal mail in ballots + ballot harvesting, using lawsuits to keep him off the ballot, etc) they engage in will doom us to 4 more years (and maybe permanent more years at the rate the shitbag left is entrenching itself in our all the institutions of our society) of a leftist run country. The margins are so thin, it doesn't take much to tip things in their favor. They just need to effect the outcome 1 or 2 percent in a handful of states.
God, I hope I'm wrong and you guys are right. It's so fucking hard to watch the country you were brought up to love being taken apart by these people.
I've never liked this argument, for a reason you touch on.
Exactly, they'll do it regardless of who it is. And they've already prepped "DeathSantis" and other smears. They can flip a switch in an instant and the morons will be frothing over "fascist" DeSantis just as much as they would over Bad Orange Man. I'm not going to cave to this "Trump is unelectable" nonsense. Hell, they said that in 2016, which he won. Heck, and 2020 which he "lost."
They don't have smears prepared against Haley, but I think that's because they wouldn't even mind; she's willing to play ball in a big way. Neocons and neolibs get along pretty well.
EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm not saying "Trump can definitely win, he can beat the system." I'm saying that if he can't, then they can stop anyone, so it doesn't matter. Trump is no less electable than anyone else.
You seriously don't think that it being Trump ratchets it up to 11, though? They are absolutely insane with regards to him. He has gotten them - the traditional/social media - to totally drop the mask, throw away any sense of unbiased professionalism, civility, fairness, justice, whatever, and go all in on doing whatever they think it takes to get "their side" into office.
It's not just that, either. It's that, whereas any other candidate has already had a little bit of garbage run against them, they have already been going crazy hard against Trump for like what, 9 years now? They have so thoroughly poisoned the opinions of people in the middle (the only votes that really matter, as the hardliners on the left/right are likely to vote for their side no matter what happens), and even those of some on the right, with regards to him, it's just hard to imagine the outcome where they can't sway the vote that 1 or 2 percent it takes for them to win.
Again - a year from now, if we're sitting here watching the entirety of the left REEEEEEEing itself into the shadow realm as they sulk through the ashes of President Elect Trump v2, it will be my great pleasure to come back here, search though my comments to find your name, and tell you, "Holy shit! You were right! Thank God!". It's just so hard to see that future coming true, though. I just cannot envision the future where we don't see the same thing we saw last time: 24/7 doomsday propaganda, paired up with the masses of low-information/low-motivation retards (that - unbeknownst to them - wisely did the country a favor, and never bothered to vote in the past), going out to their mailbox one day, getting a completely unsolicited mail-in ballot, going, "Hurr!!! Trump?! I've been indoctrinated non-stop about how this guy is the end-of-democracy-neo-Hitler! I guess I'm supposed to check the "anyone-but-him-even-though-I-have-zero-idea-what-his-platform-is" box, and then having that ballot spirited away by democrat volunteers. They've done this exact same sort of thing multiple times now, and they have gotten exceedingly effective at doing it. It just seems like they would have a much harder time getting those aforementioned retards to care enough about anyone else to go through the motions.
Bro I said the nominee lol. I'd like to disagree with you but I can't, I have no idea what the general looks like.
