Is it as woke as I fear? It's based on a real person, so that makes me hope it's more evenhanded, but then again, we've had some truly rotten stinkers as of late. I might check out an episode or two and report back if no one here has seen it.

Anne Boleyn, Sir Isaac Newton, Cleopatra, basically all of historical England, basically all of historical Egypt, basically any white land from long ago...have all entered the chat.
This timeline sucks.
Except Bass Reeves WAS black.
I'm not talking race swaps specifically - they're just blatant examples - just historical figures and how they're treated.
If you're honestly suggesting they would suddenly gain narrative skills just because the characters are black, I have a story about a bridge to tell you.
Nah, just saying they were actually historically accurate as far as skin color goes.
I watched most of the first episode and didn’t hate it. I’m just tired of slavery themed media though
A hundred years from now, they will still be making insufferable yearly Oscar bait movies about the Jewish Holocaust and the transatlantic slave trade. I wonder how outlandish the claims will become. Will whites just be literal horned devils in these movies?
I’m tired of it too. If someone did a show exploring non western slavery like in Africa, Asia, or amongst Native Americans I’d watch since that would be very different
I know 1883 was basically a disguised girl power show but there was enough of what I recognized as classic Western stuff and it had Sam Elliott so I didn't completely hate it.
1883 started out really good. Halfway thru the season I was already sick of the teen girl, despite she's cute. It wouldn't have been so bad if they just let her make mistakes, but given the year/period, the seriousness and danger of their journey, for everyone to cheer and celebrating her don't-need-no-man-better-than-the-boys-fuck-my-way-across-the-west-at-17, required me to suspend so much disbelief I got tired. Like the writers telling me to celebrate her emotional decision making, and the total derailment of the trip. Eh. It was well-made, but overall a stupid story that ended up wasting my time.
I didn’t know the show was out yet. I love westerns and I know he was a real person but I was worried that “modern times” would butcher it but of Sheridan is involved that is good
That's kinda promising. I can deal with slow burns so I'll give it a watch maybe.
