To clarify, the shooter was shot and killed by police immediately after he opened fire on the firefighter. He should have been in jail on previous charges but a clerical error allowed him to legally change his name, disguise his criminal history, and be freed on low bail. He was not freed on bail after committing murder as the text would seem to indicate.
they really should have patted him down before they revived him, or maybe while they were doing it. I wonder if there's a law against that?
Probably has more to do with the fact that it was considered a life or death situation, so immediate action would have been required, that's my guess at least.
for sure, and that kind of situation the medical care is definitely front of mind. I kind of just hope that A: responders are allowed to pat down and remove weapons from people there helping to avoid another situation like this, and B: responders in the future adopted this practice.
