After season 1 they replaced the original director because each episode cost them (AMC) somewhere around a million dollars, and those were some great episodes, but they didn't want to keep that price tag up, so he left knowing it would turn out the way it did.
Which is why it went down the star trek road of talky and techy. Instead of episodes that were heavy on expensive scenes, there was a lot of interpersonal stuff with exposition and lots of talking stuff out instead of heavy on the CGI, costumes, sets, makeup, etc.
In The Walking Dead's case, there was a lot of walking around the woods, talking about stuff, interpersonal stuff, and a few zombies now and then to remind people that it's a zombie series.
And as usual, you have a popular thing that exists. So of course it has to be feminine and for women. And oh no it got worse somehow. I bet it's the audience's fault again. God why do they hate women so much. They just poison everything they touch because you're having fun and they're not so it has to be destroyed.
But I digress. Y'ever notice that strugging companies, and low value IPs that have a small but loyal audience NEVER get injected with feminism? It's always applied to things that are always super popular and in high demand. As if they fully know exactly what they're doing, and it's just a grift to give jobs to people who are fully unemployable otherwise because of their ability to destroy everything they touch like a fucked up King Midas? That's just a head scratcher ain't it. Guess we'll never know why that is.

Happened with Rick and Morty. Two amazing seasons of scifi/nerd humor and personality. Then once it started hitting normie-levels of popularity they hired a bunch of female writers and now you have Rick sitting in therapy talking about his feelings and shit. Not to mention the first episode of S3 involved the female writers bluntly removing half the lore built up over the last two seasons because maintaining continuity is oppressive and part of the patriarchy.
I’ve seen episodes of Rick and Morty out of order but I was told the newer episodes weren’t good. This is also the reason I miss the days where I was teased for nerdy hobbies before they became mainstream
But Rick doesn't sit in therapy talking about his feelings though? The whole episode was him turning himself into a pickle to avoid that and the hijinks that insued. And what lore did they remove? I mean I'll absolutely shit on the rest of the show after S3 because it did go to complete dogshit but female writers or not they did execute a consistent theme to that season at least.
Imagine something so great that it fixes everything, but it is only ever applied to things that are already successful, and then those things go on to collapse in virtually every case.

Its why the internet, gaming, comics and even anime is better off being the "loser nerd" thing. Times were much more free, interesting and innovative.
