I forget, isn't the Sinai mostly barren desert? With modern tech it isn't too hard to populate it but I'm betting if this plan was to happen they'd want them somewhere in the middle so if they try any shit against Isreal OR the canal they can be easily airstriked to nothing in the open desert.
