The Onion is like a left wing Babylon bee right? I remember it being funny a while back until it started going along with the popular left wing talking points which is hardly edgy
It was bought by the same company that bought Gawker, Kotaku, and Jezebel.
Not that it wasn’t left wing bullshit before that, but whatever sliver of soul it had left died then.
It was always extremely New York Jewish. Some of their stuff was a little particular to that outlook. But often they wrote things most of America could appreciate. IMO as time went on, their outlook got narrower. It started to become more and more stuff that's only funny to a certain set. Part of that was being more obnoxiously left wing in part at least because they didn't know any conservatives IRL. Some guy took over the magazine talking about his butthole lube and all the buttsecks he had with his husband.
This piece I look at as a caricature. In a cartoon, you'd see Bibi launching comically large bombs over a wall at thirsty children in rags while Biden looks on pondering the number of dead Palestinians. It's a point of view, although certainly one that is not shared by all. It doesn't bother me; I think they made their point. Such as it is.
Yes, they went even more hard left after their business started failing, they fired most of their staff, and they started getting funding from who knows where. Many such cases.
I get the point it’s making but I guess whenever I see the onion I just think how sad it is how once funny things have become bad. Like I hear MAD magazine sucks now. You would think they would have so much to poke fun at. I remember not too long ago my friend shared a post from the onion about how a white girl was sentenced to be charged as a black man. So they go along with the race narrative and I just rolled my eyes. Like you said, they made their point
Millennials and younger are culturally incapable of writing intentionally funny satire anymore. It's either boring because they're afraid to be funny, unbearably snarky, or viciously hateful bile.
