I saw the passive language coming before I'd even opened up the article.
Also, the teens are at it again.
“I want to start by saying that I am very disappointed in our team and their reaction to the Watertown team and fans during Friday night’s game,” Fowler athletic director Jolene Todd said in a statement.
" We do not condone that type of behavior, and our student-athletes will be held accountable,” she added.
At least that's some level of accountability and blame.
Todd acknowledged that there was an “unhealthy amount of taunting and poor sportsmanship” directed at the players on his team from the moment they got to the field, leading up to the altercation.
“No matter what is said or done on the field during a game or before it or even after it, it is never OK to respond the way our players did but make no mistake about it they are not alone in this,” he said. “They were pushed to the brink and unfortunately responded.”
Okay, it's fading, but I'm surprised they even acknowledged that much. Better than I expected, and almost fair. The other team shouldn't have been hurling racial slurs, if that's what happened. That's true. But it's still on the team that physically attacked the other ones.
Also, I thought for a second Jolene was a man, but I think it's just a typo.
Even if I hear it with my own ears, I don't care. If hearing "nigger" or any other slur is enough to set you off, you don't belong in society in general, let alone sports. You don't have the mental toughness for it.
Especially on a sports field, the taunts are supposed to distract you. If there's one word that causes you to lose your shit, you would expect people to use it.

Unless I hear it with my own ears, I assume it's a lie. They've gone to that well about a million too many times to have any credibility left.
