I'm actually shocked it still comes with a disc drive.
I stopped keeping up with most of the newer systems -- I like that Nintendo still uses physical media as the primary delivery service for their software, but even they are dipping heavy into the digital nonsense.
For sure, though, on the Xbox and PlayStation systems -- as of the Xb1/PS4 -- most of those games on disc still required an internet connection to activate or "update". I remember installing Days Gone (I bought a physical copy some years ago just to support the devs but never properly played it) and it had to download the entire game via a patch before it could be played. So disc drives on these systems are useless, since they're mostly there as a cosmetic to assuage those who don't want to succumb to the all-digital madness.
I won't be surprised if they completely forego disc drives altogether in their next systems; given that most people have complied with giving up their rights to physical media, the masses will probably accept it, spelling the true death knell for any kind of ownership of the media you purchase in the console space.
Watch the ps6 and every future console going forward not have support for physical discs / media anymore because the masses are retarded and would rather have their games that they "own" tied to an account (that will take away all your games if something goes wrong. Example; you called someone a bitch on text chat and you get all your money stolen because the faggot reported you. Hell, I heard some people lost all of their digital games tied to their account because they got banned due to a credit card issue that was out of their control). I understand that going on the ps store is easier than driving to gamestop, but it still saddens me how physical media is becoming irrelevant. I use steam though so I guess I cant talk (though for consoles I buy fully physical).
Sooo... Hacking it to hook up what you want is the answer?

At least on PC it's fairly easy to pirate the games. (most of the time)
