The deck of many things is a good test to see if the person just gets excited about the last meme they saw. It completely fucks any long form campaign.
Their most recent adventure had bad decisions turning a player into a Mind Flayer. WotC wrote that the DM needs player consent to do this, and the player can just say "nah, I don't wanna" to avoid it.
I kinda liked the way the original Deadlands used a deck of cards, dice AND poker chips for initiative, attacking and modifying attack bonuses. It was fun.
Yeah because adding card based mechanics worked out so well for Gamma World.
