One could say that's nothing, they continued even Jack Ryan etc. after their abysmal ratings, but it's very good to see that the viewership, which was minimal even after a huge marketing campaign (second season has undetectable marketing, Amazon knows it's a lost cause), is getting lower uninterruptedly with every episode.
Don't worry Mr Jordan, people care about your books, but they do not care about the 'adaptation'.
If not making fun of the worst show ever made, the only other reviews I see are some iteration of "I never read the books but I love wheel of time and the most current episode was my favorite yet especially the part with NAME!", usually followed by degrading people who READ THE BOOKS as somehow bigoted for not wanting everything about the IP they love changed entirely.
Sometimes I wonder if studios just pay people or have employees write stuff like that
They do. It's not always them, but those do exist.
I fully expect there to be people aligned with the studios in some way that are doing this on purpose, but I doubt everyone praising this shit is being paid.
Must have employees.
One more thing: during S1 we heard about constantly that TEOTW is horrible, but S1 is fantastic. During S2 we heard about constantly that TEOTW, TGH, and TDR are horrible, boring, bad, and S1 was also horrible, but S2 is fantastic...
I cannot wait for S3 (hopefully that will be the last season of this abomination) being released in 2025: the first four books are horrible, S1 and S2 are horrible, but S3 is fantastic.
If you peek into any show praising forums or subs, you will see messages by bots using the same wording, the same praise. And of course these bots say they are massive fans since 1990, and the 'adaptation' is much better than the books. Weird way to advertise a television show.
But there are (just a handful) sane people among them who sees clearly that even reddit does not care about this 'adaptation'.
And no wonder that the showrunner gives very weird interviews in these days, where he blames everybody and anything except himself and his colleagues...
Oh really? I didn’t hear that he was playing the blame game. If this was 15 years ago and with the right showrunner who knew what to keep and to take out this show could’ve been a massive hit. With Game of Thrones I’m so glad that it started when it did or else it would be just another “diverse fantasy”. Granted by the end it was heavily influenced by girl power.
'it would be just another “diverse fantasy”'
I was banned from every WOT forum (and many televison forums) for 'hate speech' when I presented a list about the skin colours of the characters based on almost a hundred quotes from the books plus posting Robert Jordan's list about Audrey Hepburn as Egwene etc.
But one of the 'actresses' can say 'when I went to the audition, I saw white people everywhere'. But she's not racist, not at all. I'm the racist quoting Robert Jordan's own words and thoughts.
I stopped going to the subreddit once the show cast was announced and I saw praise for it. I don’t get it because they do meet people of different races/cultures on their journey.
I hope the crappy show makes some people but the books at least
"once the show cast was announced"
That announcement killed my interest in the show forever. They don't care about even being faithful to such a basic thing as skin colour then I don't care about the show, because they will change everything.
The books spends a lot of time letting you know how isolated Two Rivers is. Makes zero sense for it to look like New York City
From Chapter One: 'Gray eyes and the reddish tinge to his hair came from his mother' (Rand's pov - no different skin colour!)
'Rand did look a great deal like the Aielmen, with his height and gray blue eyes and reddish hair' (Eg's pov (TSR) - no different skin colour!)
(Also from TSR: 'the children showed it on their too-pale faces')
No black skin, no tilted eyes etc.
" "That's just foolishness, Matrim Cauthon," Egwene cut in angrily. "Nynaeve says ..." She broke off, her cheeks turning pink." [PINK!!!] "and the look she gave Thom Merrilin was not as friendly as it had been. "It is not right to make ... It isn't ..." Her face went redder, and she fell silent."
'[Egwene's] face went as white as snow'
'Egwene stared back at him, a faint blush rising in her cheeks.'
'For some reason, Elisa's [Egwene's sister] face turned bright red. Very bright red.'
'Perrin blushed very red'
'Perrin still did not look up, but his cheeks turned red'
'They smiled at him [Perrin], and he cleared his throat hoarsely. He was afraid to look around; his face was as red as a beet'
"You wool-headed witlings!" the Wisdom snapped. She bristled from head to foot; her eyes glittered, and bright spots of red burned on her cheeks.
And I will not list them all, but Jordan described the main cast as white people: white, snow white, pink, sligthly red, red, bright red, very bright red, very red, flushed heavily, scarlet, crimson, two sunsets, purple, green, pale, beyond pale, tanned (face and hands), white knuckles, bright spots of color, almost dark (from anger), plus "shoulder was going to be black and blue shortly", "The purple splotches faded to brown, and the brown and yellow paled, some disappearing altogether."
I wish you hadn’t said that. I didn’t think I could despise Amazon for butchering the source material any more. That shows that either nobody read the books or they ignored everything
They put in a black one with red hair. See there problem solved.
He blames Covid, Amazon (from advertising through lack of money til number of episodes), Covid, actors (availability...), Covid, Marvel (!), Covid, the strike, Covid, etc.
(Blaming Marvel movies!!!)
Instead of being honest for a few seconds:
Yes, I'm the showrunner, I despise the books, despise the fans, and I want to destroy Robert Jordan's RANDland.
I knew the show was in deep trouble when he said he will bring out lgbt content where it is only hinted at. He also said he was a feminist. I hear they really ruin Rand’s character
He also said his favourite character is Egwene, one of the most insufferable characters as the books go on. Willing to bet he'd change the ending too so she doesn't die.
'Willing to bet he'd change the ending too so she doesn't die.'
For me, the story ends with KOD, I don't care about Sanderson's writings, and her death was not decided by Jordan (!), it was Sanderson's idea, so Egwene lives on in my head.
By the way, the most hated characters in every poll I saw in the last 25+ years were Faile, Egwene, and Gawyn...
Hah, really? I never minded Faile that much, but that may be in part because Perrin was my favorite.
Elaine was the one who drove me crazy.
And I saw someone saying it was sexist for three women to be in love with Rand.
I predict that long time ago on Dragonmount: somebody will claim that he's the bigger fan ever, then he will destroy the Rnadland methodically.
It's a good thing that I (and you) did not watched even a second from this show.
So he's a whiny faggot who can't stand any criticism because he's probably been surrounded by Yes-man up until now which is why most people have no idea who the fuck he is.
Just an example: he threatened fans with things like this one: (not an exact quote) 'More criticism means I will turn more heterosexual characters into homosexual characters!'
Does a sane human being say things like this one? I don't think so.
I want this show to crash and burn hard, just like I want shitty NuTrek to crash and burn hard, because I loved what came before, and both NuWheel of Time and NuTrek shit on their legacy.
BUT... we lost.
For most people today, "Lord of the Rings" refers to the movies, not the books.
For most people today, Daniel Radcliffe will always be Harry Potter and Emma Watson will always be Hermione.
There are now people who when they think of Trek think of Discovery and JJ Abrams. There are people who think of Foundation and think of whatever the fuck that AppleTV abomination is.
Wheel of Time is forever tainted by the no-talent shits who wrote this crap.
The moral of the story is, never, ever, lose creative control of your content. GRRM kept a tight leash on the TV show until it passed his books and went off the rails.
This never would have happened if RJ was still around. He pondered actors, characters, etc., many times, and it's 100% clear that his vision for movie or TV series is nothing like what these ingrates have created.
Hollywood never "got" fantasy and science fiction. Hollywood can do action and it can do shitty dramas with a veneer of fantasy or science fiction, but it takes a strong individual auteur (Peter Jackson, Kubrick, David Lynch) to break the mold.
For whatever reason, Hollywood keeps picking the exact same type of useless effeminate girly men to write Star Trek...Star Wars...Foundation...Wheel of Time...etc. Fans respond negatively, directors freak out and attact fans, and the cycle of insanity continues.
#blackpill.
One silver lining is that I have seen people read LOTR due to being unhappy with Ring of Power as well as people getting the WOT books.
If I may: Cannoli on Episode 8 http://www.readandfindout.com/rafo/messageboard/310987/
Verdict: 'Just garbage, all the way down.'
