If they changed the name from "Redskins" to "Braves" they could have kept everything but the name, and probably upset less people.

Might have had trademark disputes with the Atlanta Braves if they did that.

Apparently the Tomahawk chop is still fine. That's way more racist to me than calling people the "Braves"

Plenty of examples of professional sports teams sharing nicknames but I suppose it's possible that the trademarks could have been filed more comprehensively.
